Hamm gets his name from his lovable demeanor since he's a big ole lug who LOVES to snuggle/lay on top of people and other dogs. He gets along with just about every pup and human he meets - big or small.

This handsome young man would do well in a home with or without another dog. That said, if he has a doggy sibling, he would need some assistance learning how to gently play (he's not aggressive at all - just doesn't know his own strength and likes to sit on other dogs). He would likely do best with a playmate his size/weight.

Hamm saw a cat once and wanted to chase it but has otherwise shown zero aggressive tendencies. He has not been around any small children, but he is a very, VERY sweet and forgiving guy, so we imagine he would do just fine. He just needs a little work on his manners. Hamm still has the tendency to jump on people from time to time and likes to rummage through things if he smells a nice snack. He could also use a little more work on leash training but has been doing very well with our harness lead (if you don't have one for your big pup, we highly recommend looking into them!).

We can't emphasize enough that this boy is very good. He is crate and potty trained but, as mentioned, prefers to be as close to you as possible. Hamm is okay to be left alone in the house as long as he has a safe space where he can't get into anything harmful that may seem like a snack AND has lots of chew toys. Hamm loooves chew toys! He can have chew toys and ropes, but pretty much any other toy will be shredded to bits within minutes. We think he could set a world record for the quickest destruction of a tennis ball.

Unfortunately, Hamm has recently learned he can clear a 4-foot fence. However, he is not a runner - he just wants to explore and has only wandered a few yards away the few times he has jumped. He was also not neutered the 2 times he left our yard, so he may have had another motive to leave at the time (*he is fixed now). We don't necessarily think he would need a 6 ft fence, but he would definitely need some monitoring/training in the yard for his first few months in his new home.

Let's go back to talking about how good of a boy he is! Hamm knows 'sit', 'lay down', and is doing a great job learning to wait to eat his meals until we say 'free'. He sleeps on his own doggy bed but definitely makes several attempts to sleep in the human bed. I can't say it enough; this guy just wants to be as close to you as possible. If you are sitting on the couch, he will be sure to jump up on you and make himself cozy. Even when you move him, he will do anything he can to plop his adorably massive head on you. It is pretty irresistible.
